This year's DTI...and how it went.

Published on 5 October 2024 at 18:52

Hello dear readers!

This blog is about my experience of DTI 2024....as expected I came back with a better understanding of my faith and that I want to try harder to be a better person. I'm sorry that I couldn't update while at camp because the internet there was extremely bad but really just as I expected in the middle of a huge and empty ground😅!

My first day there was just mostly setting up camp and helping everyone unpack so not much of excitement. At around 6:30pm we made our way to the main venue for our evening service and oh my it was HUGE. it was big enough to fit 4-5000 people and a big stage! And at exactly 7:00 pm, the countdown started as we were all jumping to the music. During the service, the whole hall was filled by the holy spirit and the joy it brought to us, during the worship, talks and even the 5 minute preaches! Its easy to say that I enjoyed the services very much. After the service I made my way back to camp with my friends and spent the rest of the night going to the shops, getting merchandise, visiting the cafes and enjoying spending time with my friends.

With my friends on the first night.

The next day started at 6:30am for me and its safe to say that none of us got any sleep that night, we were filled with adrenaline, excitement and no tiredness whatsoever!  I ate breakfast and wandered around the sight for a bit, trying to get familiar with ginormous place and we made our way to the pillow jump. Then to the  morning service which was at 11:00. When we came back I ate lunch and after that i took a shower(it's very hard to find cold showers in a warm day!). Then I spent that day going to seminars such as the "barbie on body image" seminar which was all about our insecurities and that they are normal and God made us just the way we are supposed to be. Soon after I returned back to camp I ate dinner and just talked with some friends. then we went to the evening service. When I came back to camp after the service I had to be quick because we were soon going to... BANDEOKE. It was a wonderful night listening to people singing and the band playing their wonderful tunes and that enough made my voice break but I was sleep a bit better that night due to all the yelling that made me tired!

The third day was a bit more calmer than the day before, I woke up in the morning at about 8:20am then made my way to eat breakfast then as clockwork went to the morning service. when we arrived back to camp we had a wonderful lunch ready to eat made by our wonderful cooks -who made every meal amazingly which literally made our day- then I headed out to the sports field because some of our friends were participating in the under 14 football tournament and they almost won! Soon after we went back to the camp for dinner then went to the evening service early to see the pre-meet (which honestly never failed to make us crack up with all their silly tasks such as eating your way through jelly to get a sausage roll inside just for some merchandise!) Later on the real service started . when it was finished I went back to camp to change into some warmer clothes and went back to the main venue for the late night worship and MY GOD! it was so powerful, just sharing a room with the holy spirit was enough to make me forget all my worries and problems! I came back to camp tired but filled with joy that night and had an un-disturbed sleep full of hope and joy.

The next day was quite normal and like any other. Breakfast, wander, morning service and lunch...except there was a little water fight to calm us down from the heat! the day went by calmly and I was certainly happy that day. When the evening came and we went to the evening service, I definitely felt my faith growing stronger as the week was closing to an end. I came back and decided not to join my friends for dodgeball but instead go on a simple walk and snacks with some of the youth leaders and some friends.

Morning came and so did our last day at DTI 2024 the mornings went by normally and we started packing up after the service. It was a bit sad to go but we all knew there was nothing more to do, our hearts were fulfilled. When the evening service came along it was more powerful and filled with energy and emotion than any other service we'd been to in the past days. Later on we all went to camp and got dressed in our tie-dye for the silent disco! The theme this year was tie-dye and this is how a silent disco works... everyone has a pair of headphones and they all can switch between two channels to listen to whichever music the like, the channel which has the most people singing to the songs they play, wins.  We had the best time ever there and it was a wonderful close to our wonderful week! The next morning we all had a tiny breakfast and then we cleared out camp. We left with hearts filled and minds cleared...we were happy.

Little announcement/authors note:

Sorry about the LONG delay for this story I know its been more than a month and I have posted another blog along with this to make it up to all of my readers. After DTI I had a few weeks left of holiday so I kind of just went all lazy through it and then school started. I will start being more consistent from now on.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask :)

I hope you have a wonderful day! Until next time my dear readers...this is Renita Richard, signing out
